Back from the doctor...

Kaydence has a double ear infection. Imagine that! That kid has had more ear infections than I could count on 10 hands! Everything else was fine. She wouldn't cooperate for most of the appt. and the doctor asked if she was feeling better. I told her she was back to her sassy, cranky self so yes, I'm sure she's better.

Ok, enough of the numbered days. This doesn't mean we're well but I am finally feeling better! I actually slept last night after some sinus meds and lots of Ibuprofen! Emeric is not better. Kaydence has her 3 year check today which basically translates into a pointless appointment where they tell me nothing I don't already know and we probably pick up some other illness while there! I think I have a pretty good idea of whether or not she's "well" but since I'm not vaccinating I've been warned to "at least" do the Well child checks so no one could ever come and say I'm neglecting my kids by not getting them proper medical care. Although it's pretty obvious I am since I'm at the clinic much more than your average person. Oh well, Emeric has to have some blood work done anyway so I might as well take Kaydence along.

Day EIGHT(Otherwise known as Week TWO)

If you can believe it, I'm still sick. I hardly slept at all last night and when I did sleep my fashion attire included a kleenex rolled and shoved up one nostril to keep my nose from dripping all over my bed. Disgusting huh? Since I couldn't breathe out of my nose my mouth was hanging open which ends up giving you a sore throat so I was up and down all night getting water to keep my parched throat hydrated. Then from coughing, or maybe just from getting in and out of bed I pulled a muscle in my back so was heating my rice sock at 3am(Aunt Kel and Mom, I realize I should've used ice but when you're running a fever of 102 and have the chills ice is the last thing you'd be using!) and so on and so forth. Anyway... who's complaining?

Emeric is still sick. He's only going on Day 6 so I expect another couple days for him. He doesn't seem to have gotten it as bad as the rest of us but every illness with him hangs on a long time so it will probably be a while.

To spoil him I decided to buy him a pair of Baby Legs. If you don't know what Baby Legs are well they are baby leg warmers. I know what you're thinking... Baby leg warmers are pointless, a waste of material, pointless, expensive, etc... And well you're right. But look at how cute he is in them??

Day 7

Emeric is feeling better today. He took a 3.5 hour nap this morning and I think that helped. Well, that and the Motrin.

I am still sick. I don't know why I got hit the hardest! I am sooooo tired. I'm going to try to get in to the doctor tonight.

I talked to Cleveland today and they're going to get Emeric's biopsy scheduled. The nurse said the doctor told her I was going to call her to get it set up and I thought she was going to call me so it was a misunderstanding. She said they're booked out about 4 weeks now so looks like we'll probably go sometime in March.

Day 6

Is that right, Day 6?? Ugh!

I went to bed at 8:00pm last night and woke up at 8:00am this morning. Emeric went back down at 9:00am and I slept for another 1.5 hours. I could still sleep! I am so tired and back last night to running a fever of over 102. I think I've probably got a sinus infection now.

The girls seem to be better. Kaydence is still running a fever but acts like she feels pretty good. Emeric has been lying on the couch all morning and doesn't feel good at all.

Kaydence has year 3 year check up next week but there is no way I'm going in the the clinic and risking picking this up again!

Day 5-Noon

Don't worry, I won't post hourly updates! The days do feel long though and I am wishing it was bedtime already.

Took the kids in to the clinic and we've all got the flu. Kaydence, Emeric, and I had flu swabs done. Theirs were positive, mine was negative. The Dr. said that just means I'm not contagious anymore. I didn't have Kylie tested. Really no point because it's pretty obvious we all have the same thing.

Of course the doctor drilled getting flu shots into my head. I told her I'd heard that the reason for the outbreaks this year was because the vaccination was the wrong strain but she casually changed the subject. And really even if it were the right strain it doesn't matter because we don't vaccinate anyway. Of course she doesn't know that, she's the doctor on call, and it doesn't really matter if she knows.

Day 5

Seeing that it's only 7:00am I'll probably end up updating more than once today.

Everyone is still sick here. I was up off and on all night because my asthma wouldn't let me take a deep breath and I don't have my inhalor. I'm still running a fever and my chest, ribs, stomach, head, face, kidneys, you get the point, all hurt from coughing. I heard the girls coughing all night and Emeric was coughing when I went in there too. I woke up last night at 1:00am to give him some more Motrin because I didn't want his fever creeping up in the middle of the night.

I might see if I can run in to the doctor this morning and get a prescription for an inhalor so I can at least breath because breathing is a good thing.

On yet another down note our furnace isn't working right. It's 62 this morning which isn't bad but cold enough when everyone is running a fever and already chilled. I suppose I'm going to have to call the repair guy today.

Well, I'm off.

Day 4

Thankfully I am much better today. Still don't feel spectacular but at least better than the last few days. Kylie and Kaydence are both still running a low grade fever and not real perky but they're better. Emeric is pretty sick and just lying around.
I usually try to post most things about him at his caringbridge site so you can go there and read about him if you want. :)

Not much planned here for the weekend except disinfecting my house from all the sickness!

Day 3

I am still sick. I can semi-function if I take lots of Ibuprofen every 4 hours. Yes, I know it's horrible for my stomach but there are worse things, like being really sick and having 3 sick kids to take care of. So, you do what you have to do! I got up early and took some Ibuprofen again hoping that by the time the kids woke up it would kick in. Kaydence is already up and still running a fever. So far Emeric hasn't gotten the brunt of this. I can't imagine that he won't though. Jake is feeling better but he never gets sick so for him to it must be very contagious!

Emeric had a neurology appt. this morning but we're going to have to cancel it. Which stinks because she can't see him for at least another month but I can't drag everyone up to Fargo in the cold when they're sick.

I'm hoping the nurse will call today with Emeric's biopsy appt. It's usually 6-8 weeks so I'm expecting to be heading back to Cleveland sometime in March. If you didn't read Emeric's caringbridge site his DNA sequencing that we had done for the Creatine Transporter Defect came back normal so we're back to doing the spinal tap and muscle biopsy. Dr. Parikh said both neurotransmitter disease and mitochondrial disease are still on the table. Either one of the two or both is possible.

Please keep Emeric in your prayers that he doesn't get this flu!

Wednesday, February 20, 2008

Well, now we're all sick. Kylie is still sick, Kaydence and I got sick yesterday. I haven't felt this sick in a long time. I checked my temp. for the fun of it and it was 102.7!! This obviously isn't a 24 hr. flu but I hope it isn't a week long one either! Emeric is the best one so far. He's ran a low grade temp and has a cough but otherwise he's been good so I'm praying it stays that way! Jake has to go back to work tomorrow(he took the last 2 days off) so I hope I'm also better!

Sick kid...

And for once it isn't Emeric! It's Kylie! Kylie is NEVER sick. Everyone else in the family will get sick and she won't. In fact, I think the last time she was really sick was at least a year and a half ago or longer and she ended up in the hospital because she was so dehydrated. She's just lying on the cough saying her stomach hurts and she's running a fever. Hopefully it passes quickly and the other kids don't pick it up! Or me!

Took some pictures of Emeric yesterday because he hasn't had his pictures taken professionally since he was 4 months old. I thought maybe I could get a good one and get it framed. Here are a few I liked(and the girls being goofy):

I need to find a doctor

I really need to get some allergy testing done. I have congestion, itchy and watery eyes, stomach cramps, gas, bloating, etc EVERY DAY. I know I'm sensitive to dairy but I suspect probably corn or wheat too and I'm sure a million other things.

I've also got arthritis in my knee that they found back when they did my knee surgery and I've wrist pain for a few years that feels all to similar to the knee pain so I suppose that's arthritis too! Ugh.

Back a few months ago I was tested for B12 and mine came back pretty low. I'm sure that's part of all of my "issues". Most of the things that bother me aren't all that severe, just annoying. Like my kidney... It's STILL hurting from my pregnancy EIGHTEEN MONTHS AGO. They've done an ultrasound and it came back normal so the doctor says there's nothing wrong. Well, there obviously is or it wouldn't still be hurting!

Also a while back I had my urine checked for a possible UTI and I was spilling sugar in my urine.

There's a lot more going on and I'm really thinking of going to see a naturopath just to get an idea of what, if anything can help some of these things. Last night my knee hurt so bad I couldn't hardly bend my leg. Now this morning it feels fine. It's amazing how the weather affects it. I know people with arthritis say that and it sounded ridiculous to me until I realized it was true.

Of course my problem is I can't afford to get any of this stuff done and have spend enough time at the doctor's office in the last year so I probably won't actually go but it's something I keep pondering...

Jake keeps telling me he's waiting for me to be wheelchair bound and hunched over when I'm 40 because of my ailments! LOL

Home again, home again jiggity jig

We're home from Mayo. Emeric was admitted Tuesday morning for EEG monitoring. They caught a couple seizures and said his brain waves are slower than normal but other than that no changes really. They increased one of the new meds he just started hoping to get him totally seizure free. He's glad to be home and so am I! Kylie and Jake's mom came with and Kaydence stayed home with Jake. Both of the girls enjoyed their time away. I was nervous because they've never been apart before but they did great. Kaydence was sick most of the time we were gone with a high fever and a cough but so far no one else has caught it!

Jake will start hauling seed potatoes for his brother next Monday for two months and will be gone quite a bit with that. He's hoping he'll be able to come home most nights but trucking never goes the way you've planned it!!

It's supposed to be really cold tomorrow so we're not going to be doing much. Maybe I can get some much needed cleaning done!
